During 2007 the global financial system was in a state of collapse and turmoil. In the UK we saw the demise of Northern Rock; this was when mortgage borrowers and savers started to witness the market going through massive change and disruption.
The FSA announced a radical overhaul of the mortgage market and released a discussion paper in October 2009.
This is referred to as the Mortgage Market Review (MMR). The Mortgage Market Review is intended to address the issues highlighted and arising from the economic crisis and restore faith and confidence back to the lending sector in particular.Recently the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) has launched a scathing attack on the FSA’s MMR proposals and has called for consumers to be consulted in any change, questioning the validity of the FSA’s research and drawing attention to its own.
